Trapiche, Malbec "Oak Cask" - 2010 - 2010

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
If you get at this now you may still enjoy the wine’s freshness. Aromas of apricot and apple are clear and unadulterated by oak. The flavors of lemon, apple, pineapple and green papaya are zesty, while lasting acidity on the finish leaves a cleansing, wet impression.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Average red juice with sweet, rubbery aromas and flavors that match. It’s Malbec in its most simple state: raspberry and cherry distilled into a quaffable liquid. Chilling might help.

Astringent almost to the point of making it tough to drink. With aromas of raspberry and citric flavors, it’s a biting wine without much Cabernet size or stuffing.

Trapiche Cabernet Sauvignon - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Licorice and prune/raisin aromas indicate slightly baked core fruit, yet the palate is clangy and ringy, with out-of-balance acids that give the wine a clumsy burn and sharpness. Along the way there are equal flavor components of cherry tomato, raspberry and red plum.

Trapiche Merlot - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Spritzy lemon-lime aromas are attractive; there’s lemon meringue and green herbs on the palate, and a narrow, fresh finish to close the deal.

Trapiche Torrontés - 2007

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With this wine, you’ll get a solid blast of oak and butter on the nose, which is backed by orange, melon and nectarine flavors. There’s acidity and kick to it, but also some softer butterscotch and citrus pith notes. More than good by Argentine standards.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Toasty but dull, with oily walnut aromas matched by stale fruit. This is heavy and baked out; sweet and flat as a board.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Black fruit aromas abound, but it’s also sort of foresty and fern-influenced on the nose. Zingy in the mouth, with savory, almost salty flavors of wild berry and black cherry. Seems to move a little fast and rough, but with good ripeness and honest flavors.

Trapiche Bonarda - 2007

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Trapiche’s high-end Chardonnay scores points for its heft, power and all-important balance. The nose features baked apple, popcorn and some wood, but it’s not over the top. Flavors of apple, pineapple and butterscotch are smooth and soft, while a bracing shot of acidity keeps everything in line.
