Tree bark, moist earth and toast aromas segue into meaty black fruit on the palate. A little lean on the midpalate; finishes with smooth oak, chalk and herb flavors. A blend of Merlot, Cab and Cab Franc—if it’s a Bordeaux style they’re after, it’s working.

Trey Marie is another project of the tireless Eric Dunham of Dunham Cellars, a rising star in the Walla Walla Valley. This blended red is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and most of the fruit comes from the Pepper Bridge vineyard in Walla Walla. It has a fine nose with cassis and dark berry fruit, firm tannins and a Bordeaux-like mouthfeel. Despite the predominance of Merlot, it is a firm wine with nuances of lead pencil, tobacco and cedar.
