Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark, rich, deep and full-bodied, this is a classic Petite Sirah. It’s bone dry, with sturdy tannins and good acids framing impressively ripe flavors of blackberries, coffee and sweet leather. Drink now through 2015.

Sometimes Pinot Blanc resembles Chardonnay, but this crisp, minerally, citrusy wine strikes a different pose. It does have a rich, creamy mouthfeel, which gives it a full-bodied mouthfeel, but it has a dry, steely character that makes it far friendlier with food than a fat, buttery Chard.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine is very dry and stimulates the taste buds with its fresh acidity, but it has a fat streak of glyceriney lime, peach, apple and oak that softens and sweetens. Try with sushi or barbecued salmon.

Too sugary for a table wine. With its sweet cherry, berry and spice flavors, it’s more like a dessert wine.

Hot in the mouth and sweet on this finish, this blackberry, coffee and spice-flavored Zin is rustic. The sugary finish might pair well with a rich barbecue sauce.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With a touch of gooseberry, hints of dill and smoke, and a central core of lemongrass and Asian pears, this is a very pleasant Sauvignon Blanc. It’s dry and crisp and spicy.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
If you thought Pinot Blanc was a Chardonnay wannabe, think again. This one’s more like a Sauvignon Blanc, with its dry, tart citrus flavors and high acidity, although that touch of peaches and cream on the finish gives it away.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Way too oaky. The underlying fruit is not nearly strong enough to support all that caramel and buttered toast. The result is clumsy.

Porty, tannic and high in alcohol, with raisiny flavors.

Definitely on the sugary, sweet side, this Zin also tastes hot and peppery, despite an official alcohol reading of only 14.5%.
