Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A lot of oak. The nose is honeyed and heavy, with too much toast and butter. In the mouth, it’s got kicking acids but the flavors are sweet, oaky and veer toward banana. Resiny on the finish; underwhelming for the price.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Big and brooding on the nose, with blackberry, violet, coffee and mineral aromas. The palate is smooth, rich and silky, with sweet, pure, jammy black fruit flavors and a pinch of chocolaty bitterness for balance. Finishes warm and minty, with an added dusting of cocoa. Big and bold more than complex or elegant.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hits the stage with lemon-lime, melon and flowery aromas that are followed by a crisp mouth with jousting acids, lime and tangerine flavors, and finally a crystal-clear finish with zest and length. Very nice for this variety; drink right away.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A lusty value made right. The nose issues black cherry, cough drop and cassis aromas. It’s concentrated and balanced, while flavors of black cherry and cassis follow the nose. A mild tannic burn and chocolate on the finish tell you it’s good and can go with any meat, from burgers to a quality steak or roast.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Quite bright, sweet and fruity, with a hint of cherry candy and blackberry on the bouquet and then a juicy, fresh palate with mild chocolate, raspberry and proper texture. For $11 this wine is more than competent; it’s very good. 50,000 cases made.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Cherry, sweet berry and citrus peel aromas come in front of a full, slightly oaky palate with sweet plum and berry flavors. There’s some length to the finish and more flavors of sweet, creamy but nicely applied oak.

Trivento Pinot Noir - 2010

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Following trends, Trivento had to come out with its whopper Malbec, and while it's perfectly good, generous and wide, it doesn't seem special. Aromas of barrel resin, shoe polish, baked blackberry and cassis solidify its darkness, while the palate is sweet and syrupy, with brown sugar and blackberry flavors. Ripe and rich, but needs better structure to warrant its price.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, intense Malbec with giant black fruit aromas that veer toward medicinal. The palate is sizable and sticky, with grabby tannins bulking up sweet, ripe blackberry flavors. Finishes with mocha and creamy vanilla flavors. Chewy, broad and on the money.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Floral and big, with large-scale plum and berry aromas. The palate is grand and thick, with creamy vanilla flavors adding sweetness and width to meaty berry and plum flavors. Nothing out of the ordinary here; just lots of well-applied oak, serious fruit and body. Thoroughly modern red wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A forceful, toasty, New World-style Syrah with bold cassis and berry aromas. Dark in color, with sweet berry flavors accented by vanilla and toast. Shows good depth, concentration and length, while the finish is long and oaky. Not overly complex but nicely done for the price.
