The dark purple color suggests a younger wine, but one sniff and you know it spent a lot of time in oak. Toast and cedar aromas predominate, but underneath them lies black-cherry fruit and a firm iron-mineral tang. Long, dry finish. Give it 3–5 years for the oak to integrate before drinking it over the next 10.

Vibrant and honest, with expressive raspberry and cherry aromas and flavors accented by mint leaf, liqueur and cassis. Really hits the spot and then fades away in no hurry. A smoking-good crianza that hammers home the fact that Ismael Arroyo’s wines are still leaders in RDD. Drink now–2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full, earthy and ripe, but also delivering alot of clean fruit, size and balance. The palate has moderate to full tannic grip, which props up berry, vanilla, wood and mild herbal flavors. Long, solid and a little oaky late, with proper purity and a commitment to the near future. Drink now through 2011.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full, heavy, chunky wine with a powerful bouquet of black fruit and chocolate. The palate is about as full and concentrated as they come, but there’s good balance and aging potential along with cassis, blackberry and mild herbal shadings. Savory and strong as it is long on the finish. Drinkable now but better from 2011–2014.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Incredible depth and purity of fruit characterize this bottling. A huge bouquet of black fruits, truffles, cinnamon, licorice and more pulls you right in, and the palate does not disappoint with its cherry, tobacco and cumin notes, and a lovely balance of sweet and sour elements. Full—even massive—but quite refined at the same time, with great grip, and solid, well-dispersed tannins and handsome, spicy fruit on the long finish. Best cellared a few more years, and it should drink well for decades.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Deep and very complex, with great intensity of cherry fruit and earth-leather accents, this is (as we say) "very serious juice." The mouthfeel is full and rich, with good acidity and firm but fine tannins. The engaging aromas carry through on the palate, where interesting mineral, even faintly saline, nuances appear. (Available fall 2000.)

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark in color, with a very attractive, rather Burgundian nose of cherry, earth, leather and vanilla, this is a medium-weight and very well-balanced red. The flavors are predominantly dried cherry, with licorice accents that follow through on the finish. Fine drinking now and for the next few years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Wonderful on the bouquet, where earthy notes blend perfectly with alert, bright fruit aromas. This is a sizable, full-bodied wine with leather, lively fruit character and a dose of rich chocolate. It’s in excellent shape and shows impressive balance and depth. Delicious to the core, with heft and noticeable oak that should lessen if given more time. Drink now–2019.

Pure, soft, balanced and classy, with raisin, earth and fine leather on the nose. The palate is warm and smooth, with lasting acidity that creates juicy cherry, plum and fresh tomato flavors. On the finish, chocolate and caramel enter the picture. Complex and still vital. Drink now through 2013.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Firmly structured, this wine needs another two years to round into form. Right now, it still shows a youthful stink that quickly blows off to reveal a blend of red and black cherries allied to sturdy iron and earth elements. Firm tannins on the finish accentuate the need for aging.
