Kind of generic on the nose, with licorice and shy black fruit and herbal aromas. The palate is chunky and thick, with blocky flavors of baked black fruits, olive and caramel. A chunky, ripe wine with a hint of raisin and a broad mouthfeel.

A little bland and basic to start with, with hickory and standard berry aromas. The palate is sturdy and alive even if it burns a little. Cherry, raspberry and plum flavors are juicy, and there’s a touch of vanilla for softening sweetness.

Dark and smoky, like hickory burning alongside blackberry, spice and turned earth. The palate has jammy black plum and blackberry flavors mixed with herbs, while good acidity gives it length. Finishes long, spicy and herbal, with enough freshness to make it food friendly.

A huge, purple wine with foxy, wild aromas that are a bit weird. The palate is choppy and tannic, with austere, herbal big fruit flavors in front of a leathery, spicy, chocolaty finish. Has a few attributes but mostly it’s strange for Malbec.

This Carmenère starts out a bit austere and full of varietal character, meaning there’s olive, roast tomato, dill and pickle on the nose. But there’s also perfectly ripe plum to back it up, and excellent feel and balance to boot. Chewy enough but more racy. Imported by Prestige Wine Group.

Dark fruit aromas lead a rustic, earthy, smoky bouquet towards a crisp, healthy palate with ample oak that creates a buttery taste to accent dry berry flavors, a light herbal character and pepper. Fresh, solid and well oaked.

A lot of oak greets you, while lemon and apple cider aromas dwell below the surface. The palate is fairly round and dominated by apple flavors touched up by wood-based cinnamon. Feels nice and has that creaminess that many folks are looking for. But 2004 is already an old vintage, so drink right away or wait for the ’05.

Brandied black cherry aromas come with firepower, while the palate is dark and full, with good fruit and some burn. Flavors are dark and sweet, with peppery spice. Finishes equally dark, with blackberry and coffee. Familiar and good for a value-priced Cab.

Slightly oily and nutty on the nose, but mostly you get orange peel and citrus blossom. The palate is round, full-bodied and pithy, with dry, nearly oxidized flavors of peach, walnut and melon. Finishes just fresh enough, but without any of the haunting, exotic flavors that characterize Old World Viognier.

Yellow in color and floral and oily on the nose; this is one ripe wine. Mango, banana and white pepper flavors give it originality, while the body is plump and just acidic enough to stay upright. Finishes melony with some bitterness.
