Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Purple as they come, with minty, savory, charred aromas that dominate. Airing tones things down, revealing blackberry, spice, butter and creaminess along with big tannins, bite, clamp and weight. Among roasted, peppery big boys, this treads the line deftly and is worth the money.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Herbal and slightly volatile on the nose before it settles on meaty, herbal fruit aromas. The palate stores flavors of cocoa, carob, olive and herbal black fruit, and while it shows some stemminess it ends on a firm plane with herbs, toast, earth and pepper.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rooty and sweet smelling, much like a root beer soda mixed with smoked meats and spice. The flavor profile brings roasted black fruit and hoisin sauce, while the finish is dark and ends with coffee-like bitterness. Good for everyday consumption.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Neutral and almondy, with hints of baked apple, toast and butter. The palate is soft and cushioned with melon and banana flavors. Finishes round, smooth but short on pulse, with weight but no oxidation. The time is now to drink this value-priced Chilean Chard.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark on the nose, with olive, rubber, plum and black cherry scents. The mouth is deep and saturated; there’s fairly lush plum, coffee and mocha flavors to ponder. Shows some espresso-like bitterness on the back end, which adds to the complexity. A definite contender. Imported by Megawine Inc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full and meaty, but kind of awkward and earthy. The nose has leather and stewed blackberry while the palate shows black fruit, cassis, chocolate and even some nutmeg. The feel is tannic and fiery, and overall the wine is sort of saucy and big-boned. Imported by Wineco Corp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heavy and furry smelling, but soon it opens to show floral red fruit and root beer aromas. The palate is snappy but tasty, with plum and berry flavors coming with some lactic grab. Requires some leniency but generally speaking it’s pretty decent wine. Imported by Wineco Corp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a complete and pleasant red. The nose has a bit of wood, some cured meat and ripe fruit aromas, while the mouth delivers juicy red-berry flavors along with a touch of apple skin. One of this brand’s better efforts; it tastes like a real and true Merlot. Imported by Wineco Corp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Slightly minty but also jammy, with floral/herbal aromas. For the most part this wine is neither here nor there, but for standard-issue plum, berry and spice notes it delivers. Dry, mild and rudimentary red wine; not a lot of varietal Carmenère character.

Viña Requingua Carmenère - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Definitely outside the norm for Chilean Chardonnay. This is distinctly powdery and sweet, with forced oak and banana-like fruit that simply don’t come together in a way that impresses. Finishes with faux vanilla and candied wood flavors. It’s 30% barrel fermented, but the end result isn’t very good.
