Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine is a fine example of all that’s good about the appellation. It has a complete nose of bold berries. The palate is open and welcoming, with cherry and raspberry fruit framed by a light shade of oak. Even the finish, which is round and nicely textured, works. And with light but healthy tannins, it’s a breeze to drink. Best Buy. —M.S.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an out-of-date vintage, and the wine is starting to fade just a bit. The mature nose deals foresty notes along with berry aromas, while in the mouth it’s dry, with some cherry flavor. The finish is lively and healthy, indicating that while the wine is on the way out, it’s not on life support just yet. And if you like some leathery, aged notes to your red, this has it.

Earthy at first, and there’s also a peanut-like scent to the concentrated bouquet. The palate is on the softer side, but ripe plum and pepper flavors drive it forward, and the final act is a finish of coffee and raisins. —M.S.

Dried spice—almost chili pepper—on the nose livens up dark, blackberry fruit in the mouth and on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet and floral, mostly because some Viognier is in the blend. The palate offers zesty citrus, ripe melon and just enough sugar and spice to make things nice. Even on the finish it holds together. A trifle sweet but quite well done. Best Buy.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little rustic, featuring leather and dried fruit aromas and some astringent tannins on the finish. But it shows some pleasing spice and prune flavors on the round midpalate. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This floral, spice-filled white is Viognier; it just can’t advertise that fact on the bottle. It’s plump and medium-bodied, with ample peach and melon fruit to support its flowery aromatics. Mouthwatering on the finish, where the slightest touch of pleasant bitterness creeps in.

Mildly coarse on the nose, with aromas of clove, cinnamon, floral berry fruit and cherry. A little dusty across the palate, and relatively complex in terms of its flavor profile, which features bright red fruits touched up by toasty coffee and mocha flavors. Fresh and nicely composed.

Fairly deep ruby color with youthful pinkish rim. Slightly funky, earthy aromas prevail with hints of green peppercorn dried herbs and hickory smoke. Slightly lean and herbal on the palate, medium bodied with spicy, meaty flavors. Crisp, taut texture.
