Hearty Negroamaro with 15% Malvasia Nera produce a wine that delivers surprisingly delicate tones of blue flowers, blueberry and vanilla. With time, the fragrances become perfume-like in intensity with notes of violet spray and lavender soap. The wine has medium length, sweet flavors and a crisp close.

Vibrant fruit, red apple and blue flowers appear with intensity on the nose to create a racy, clean red wine. The acidity is good, as is the structure, but the 15% alcohol does hit the palate hard. Pair it with cream-based pasta (to counter the alcohol), white meat and roasted winter vegetables.

Loads of berry fruit are backed by white mushroom, red earth, bitter chocolate, exotic spice and granite. This Primitivo, with a small amount of Aglianico blended in, is a genuine, simple wine with nice, ripe flavors and a spicy finish.

Here’s a cheerful Chardonnay from Puglia that does a very good job of recalling the territory it comes from. You’ll notice aromas of herbal butter, dried oregano, yellow fruit, honey and roasted almond that seem very specific to the southern Mediterranean. It’s creamy and soft in the mouth with a fresh note of acidity on the close and is, generally speaking, easy and fun to drink.

Here’s a pleasantly fragrant blend of Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera that does a good job of delivering ripe berry notes that are intense, but not exaggerated. Black pepper, clove and chili notes are present but well dosed. Pair it with pecorino cheese or braised meats.

Big, bold and dense, this Primitivo di Manduria delivers blockbuster notes of blackberry preserves, cola, molasses and green spice. In the mouth, it has slight astringency and tight tannins with good persistency and length overall.

Made with grapes from 50-year-old vines, this has a lush veneer of caramelized cherry lavished on top. Aromas include blueberry, leather and exotic spice; it’s hard to imagine what to pair this sweet wine with other than aged cheeses.
