Here’s a full-of-dynamite, small-batch Malbec that smells of bold berry fruit mixed with earth, smoked meats and mocha. The flavor set is pure, driving blackberry with mild herbal accents, and the finish is long, flavorful and lightly herbal. Expensive and a little fiery, but still excellent. Drink now through 2013. Only 250 cases made.

Super floral, like lady’s bath powder mixed with raspberry blossom. But that’s where the pleasantries end; the palate is rubbery and hard as pavement, with gamy, cooked flavors that narrow down to a tough, tannic finish. Only 250 cases made, so it’s more of an experimental wine than something commercial.

Spice and clay notes grace this earthy Cabernet-led wine that sports black cherry, berry and earth notes. The palate is forward and grabby, with rubbery tannins to go with flavors of roasted berries, plum sauce, chocolate and savory spices. A no-hiccup Cabernet (with 12% Cab Franc) with just enough ruggedness to avoid being commonplace.

More baked, muddled and heavy than Alicia’s Paso de Piedra bottling, with roasted plum/berry flavors and a heavy, forceful palate that carries some burn, heat and rubber. Big and bullish, like a proverbial toro in a china shop. A lot of oak, too.

Built like a brick house, with ripe, red aromas. This isn’t light and elegant in the Italian style; it’s mega ripe, with a ton of cherry, spice, kick and chocolate. Medicinal at times, peppery at others, and deep and wild throughout. Drink now through 2017.

Initial aromas of tire rubber, smoke, black fruits and leather are good and rich, but in a common, understandable way. Smooth and chunky on the palate, with warmth and flavors of blackberry, fig paste and chocolate. Finishes roasted and dark. A thorough Argentine Cabernet with no glaring weaknesses.

A white blend made from Riesling, Albariño and Savagnin. It lacks specificity on the nose while offering up floral, citrusy aromas. In the mouth, it’s plump and soft, with sweet melon, spice and a honeyed finish that also shows pith and mild bitterness. Interesting but a little heavy, sweet and amorphous.

Dark, rubbery and black on the nose, then medium across the palate, with a good mouthfeel and evidence of refinement. The flavors are deep and classy, emphasizing plum and raspberry along with an herbal undertone. Toasty and oaky late, with espresso-like bitterness to the finish.

Jammy berry and plum aromas offer vanilla on the side. The palate is juicy, fresh and full, while the flavors suggest roasted berry, a light leafy quality and herbs. Healthy, stout and peppery/spicy on the finish.

Very clean, smooth and inviting. Every piece is in place, and the wine flows from nose to palate to finish with ease and comfort. Flavors of black cherry, cassis and blackberry are creamy and deep, with a hint of vanilla sweetness and oak. Warm and chewy as well. Cabernet Sauvignon with 12% Cab Franc; drink now.
