The nose on this wine impresses from the start, with its clean aromas of apples, spice and citrus. On the palate, an attractive balance of minerality and refreshing fruit triumphs. Not terribly complex, but fun and exciting.

There’s a nice underlying minerality to this wine, complemented by aromas and flavors of crisp red apple, melon and lime oil. The mouth is round and light at the same time, but the alcohol is slightly pronounced on the finish. Drink now.

Just a hint of wood from a small percentage of barrel aging gives this wine an open, buttery character. From vines on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain outside Stellenbosch, the wine lacks pure Chenin varietal character, but there are great, ripe flavors. Imported by Vinnovative Imports.

Simple but solid, this Cab leads with a nose of smoked meat and pepper and follows it up with a balanced character of minerals, red fruit and wooded spice. Clean and well made, it will pair perfectly with smoked or grilled meats.

Grassy aromas meet those of papaya and banana, while the palate displays similar tropical notes with citrus and grassiness. Light and thin throughout, this finishes with bitter herbs.

Dark red in the glass, this wine slowly reveals itself as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Hints of leather and barnyard lift to show dark berry aromas, while the entry is smooth and silky, a chocolate undercurrent leading towards more substantial cassis and mixed berry with cola and leather notes. Firm in the mouth, it has graceful tannins that will evolve over the next few years. A wine true to Stellenbosch at an affordable price.

Is Chenin experiencing a renaissance in South Africa? This wine would suggest so, with its taut, layered elegance and sophisticated overall style. The nose is complex, with varying degrees of crisp citrus, flowers and spice. On the palate, it unfolds subtly, with lime, spice and honeyed fruit all sparkling and in sync. It goes without saying that this wine is food-friendly, but it's good enough to be savored on its own.

A richly perfumed nose of deep berry and spice leads this balanced Cabernet. Flavors of cherry, dark chocolate and tobacco offer robust character, as do the firm tannins and spicy finish. A Cabernet with character at a good price.
