Dark, fiery, forceful and woody, with aromas of sawdust atop black fruit. The palate is zesty, lively and hard, with biting tannins raising up flavors of blackberry and pepper. Acidic, rough and tough, but with good flavors and a decent amount of integrity.

Purple as they come, with extracted aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, maple and bacon. It’s a wide, flush wine with bulk, 14.5% alcohol and savage flavors of blackberry and smoky BBQ. Definitely for fans of big, modern Spanish wines; Old World enthusiasts will probably call it “too modern” and overdone.

Dark as night and thick, with heavy, modern aromas of shoe polish, bacon and ripe, roasted black fruits. The feel is concentrated and healthy, while the flavors run very ripe and dark, with plenty of oak thrown in. Finishes rich, with bacon, resin, black pepper and some burn. Seems more jacked up than its listed 14.5% alcohol.

A noticeable step down from the 2005 Volver. This vintage is gangly and quasi out of control. At 14.5% alcohol, it’s very big. And the aromas of shoe polish, burnt rubber, cola and vinegar are almost volatile and aggressive. Finishes edgy, sort of tannic and oily. Seems like the producer went straight for power and size while forgetting about balance.

I smelled cinnamon and cloves on the nose. Heavy and smooth mouth feel with tannins that linger long after your sip.

Saturated ruby. Strikingly aromatic nose offers a pungent array of fruit, floral and herbal scents. Sweet cherry-vanilla and cola flavors coat the palate and are enlivened by juicy acidity. Supple tannins gain strength on the finish, which strongly repeats the cola and floral qualities.
