Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Classic older Burgundy, sweet but very light nose with the faded aromas of old roses, still has lots of pep though in the scents of red cherries, pepper, smoke, and earth; light and fresh in the mouth with no real evidence of oxidation, although there is age; red sour cherries are the dominant flavor, but also brings in the deeper and richer flavors of black cherries and sweet truffles; quite elegant and seductive as only an older Burgundy can produce. (18.5/20)

This is why we seek the holy grail of Burgundy; opens with an amazing nose, very aromatic and perfumed, floral and exotic, black cherry aromas mix with subtle flower scents, touches of pepper, intensely aromatic and laced with hints of hidden pleasures; big and powerful in the mouth, layered cherry and plum flavors, smoke and earth, hints of flowers and spices at different levels of intensity; this wine is very three-dimensional; long, complex finish, flowers and fruit mix with wood and cedar with hints of truffle. (20/20) Another magnum at the annual Tuft wine dinner was consistent; perhaps the nose was even more complex and intense, and flavors perhaps a bit more earthy and spicy, but every inch a winner; same score here.

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Ripe fruit aromas, perfumed and rich with layers of cherry and plum, earthen, woody with hints of deep damp woods, touch of truffle; not as inspiring in the mouth as the nose would suggest; sweet and ripe but without any excitement; a wine going through its paces without inspiration; full-bodied but falls flat in the mouth; disappointing. (15.5/20)

Perfumed and sweet with a rich spicy nose, black cherries, dense and ripe, opaque but elegant nose, lots of earth tones, smoky, cedar, tea leaves; deep and rich with lots of spicy fruit; crabapples and red fruits; dry woody tannins; very intense and peppery; dry earthen finish, but a classic. (18.5/20)
