Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A crusted Port is a style that is bottled without filtration, meaning it throws a sediment (a crust) and can also age in the bottle. And seven years after bottling, its rich fruits are still evolving, like a vintage Port, offering sweetness, super-ripe plum flavors as well as a dry, woody edge. It is very drinkable now, but will age.

A firm, dry wine, very upright and elegant. It has power, but it’s the initially austere perfumes that dominate. Dried currants go with black plum skins and definite tannins.

Sweet, fragrant, very luscious and soft. It is fruity and easy with some youthful freshness, and stalky, dried currant flavors. Certainly not intense, but immediately appealing.

A Port for aging, as you would expect from Graham’s. The wine is dry, firm, textured, solid and dense. The fruit flavors of fresh cranberry and black currant are a supporting act at this stage. Classic vintage.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a hugely dry, burnt style, very concentrated. The licorice and bitter coffee flavors are dense, layered and well balanced with the acidity. A serious wine that demands attention.

This is a great Port, from a great brand. It is packed with solid, structured, rich and intense black fruit flavors. Its tannins show considerable aging potential. It is a big, ripe wine, balanced by a long, lingering dark aftertaste. Imported by Premium Port Wines Inc.

Very raisiny, the fresh fruit soft and juicy. Cranberry and spice flavors give a purity of berry fruits and sweet acidity. It is very accessible, with all the elements well in place.

Crusted Port is an intermediate category between LBV and vintage. It is bottled with a crust or sediment, allowing it to age in the bottle like a vintage Port, but is not released until three years after bottling. Graham’s Crusted is still young, showing bright, peppery fruit, ripeness and dryness along with sweet black flavors and vibrant acidity to finish.

An elegant, lightweight wine, with lots of dried spice and cocoa notes layered over slightly pruny fruit. Not the best vintage in the Douro and it shows in this wine.

This 20-year-old shows some surprisingly youthful notes of red fruits along with layers of caramel, honey, maple syrup and walnuts. Nicely balanced, and it comes in half-bottles too—the perfect size for smaller gatherings.
