Waterbrook makes a lovely, lighthearted, citrus- and melon-flavored Sauv Blanc. Crisp and elegant, it manages to be flavorful without being overpowering; it’s a delightful summer sipping wine that will add zip to almost anything you serve it with.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweetly perfumed with citrus blossoms, this is a juicy, mouthfilling wine with ripe citrus, melon and light tropical flavors. The wine fills the palate and lingers, adding hints of anise and mineral to the delicious fruit as it winds through a long, sinuous finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very fine effort, with classic cassis and black cherry in the fruit core, but also offering interesting details of bark, earth and herb. The wine lingers, perhaps due to excellent natural acidity, and without overpowering the palate it keeps tantalizing it with nuances of moist earth and wet rock.

Waterbrook Cabernet Sauvignon - 2007

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Released quite young, this grapy red blend is a perennial favorite, for it mixes well-sourced grapes and substantial flavors of Washington-grown fruit at a modest cost. 40% Merlot, 32% Cab, 11% Cab Franc, 9% Sangiovese and 8% Syrah in this vintage, an interesting blend that brings dark tar and licorice along with plum and black tea. Just the slightest taste of oak and chocolate.

Dry and balanced, just 25% of this went through malolactic, it shows crisp apple, pear and citrus brightened with punchy acids. Just a hint of oak from aging in 25% new barrels.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Beaucoup butter, caramel and toasted nut flavors; 80% of this reserve Chardonnay went through malolactic. It’s got plenty of fruit power and acid; but it’s mostly the French oak barrel flavors that stand out at this young age.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A floral, dusty nose, quickly leads into a burst of lime and orange. Broad, juicy and off-dry (1.3% residual sugar), its calling card is its great fruit flavor.

Waterbrook White Blend - 2007

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Young, fragrant, and loaded with milk chocolate and spicy berry. Tight, tannic, with grip and tang; pleasingly moderate, listed under 14% alcohol. Although this has no Grenache in it, it has that sort of tart berry quality, with stiffer tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An outstanding example of Washington Merlot. It needs more bottle age, but has all the right stuffing. There is plenty of still-to-be-integrated new oak, toast, and a dark and earthy core. Note that the Loess (Leonetti) vineyard contributes to the blend. Decant this; it could be a real sleeper.
