Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Grand Vin from Water’s Crest hits the nose with intense aromas of char, smoke and dark cherries, but is laced with a veil of green, vegetal notes throughout. On the palate, flavors of black coffee and rich black fruit are followed by a sweet vanilla chaser. Sturdy but supple tannins add structure and bite.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Appetizing on the nose with aromas of rich, buttery toast and a hint of dark, toasted wood, this dry, full-bodied Chard has pleasant, while not deeply concentrated, apple flavors that end on a deliciously bitter nut skin note. Vibrant acidity makes this a great companion with food.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sultry on the nose with scents of smoke, toast and savory, cooked apples, this is a dry, full-bodied white blend made from 70% Chardonnay. The smoky, appley palate is good, but could use a burst of acidity to add vibrancy to the midpalate.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made with 100% cabernet franc, this wine has an herbaceous, earthy nose and jaunty plum and cherry flavors. It's a bit bracing on the palate and the fruit initially overrides the herbal notes beneath, giving it a flavorful yet one-dimensional character. The nose implies more depth--leaving you wanting more.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made of 80 percent Merlot, 10 percent Cabernet Franc, 6 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 4 percent Malbec, this blend from Long Island's Waters Crest is somewhat complex, with an herbal, peppery nose and tastes of cherry, plum and oak. The nose is robust but on the palate, the wine feels a little watered down and thin.

Waters Crest Bordeaux-style Red Blend - 2004

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There's a depth and meatiness to the nose on this wine, with its black cherry, plum, clove and peppercorn aromas. But the wall of blockbuster tannins that hit the palate next make it difficult to discern any of the qualities beyond, and makes it too tight and chalky for what should be a softer, more integrated variety. May improve with age, once the edge drops off.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Watery and supersubtle flavors fail to impress with this rosé. What’s there is good—strawberry, fresh fruit—but it’s buried in the mix.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This red has a fruity, jammy nose with a peppery kick. On the palate it’s a mixture of spicebox, cherry, coffee and pepper. Approachable and well made—a good everyday drinking red.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Some nice aromas of bright red fruit and spice but the flavors are thin and charred and the feel and finish tannic. The regular 2004 Cab Franc is actually preferable.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Coffee, char and ripe red fruit perfume this alluring full-bodied Cab Franc. On the palate, intense plum and cherry flavors garner complexity from layers of smoke, granite and a toasty, bacon-inflected finish.
