golden straw in color - already it's deeper than what I expect from a Gruner; this must be attributable to the lush 2003 vintage, so hot in Europe. Aromas: besides sugared lime (mineral, to me) and white flowers there are nuances of coconut, banana, honey, hint of orange preserves, peach pits, sweet wet grass and, suprisingly, anise seed. The palate is dry with moderate acid and moderate alcohol, although it seems a little hot, especially on the finish. A faint white pepper rinse starts things off before lime squirt and a floral essence round out the flavor package. Not a ton of depth, and with the hot-ish finish it's a disappointment. A tough year for a cool climate grape like Gruner.
