Nice and dry, with a pretty acid-tannin balance and enough Cabernet character to satisfy. Shows blackberry, coffee, spice and herb flavors that are elegant and balanced in the mouth.

A lovely wine that reveals everything in the first sip. Blackcurrants, smoked meat, milk chocolate and vanilla mingle together in soft tannins and easy acids. Finishes long and sweet.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A wine of considerable finesse and charm. It has Sauvignon’s racy, citrusy side, but much more in the way of fresh sweet herbs and smoky oak. Finishes with minerals and honey.

The ’06 shows a return to ripeness. It’s lush in pineapple and mango fruit, and the rich overlay of oak adds complexing notes of smoke, vanilla and wood spice.

White Oak Chardonnay - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and concentrated, a young wine filled with tannins and sharp acids. There’s a solid overlay of smoky oak, but the fruity core you want isn’t there. Instead, the heat of alcohol is the dominant mouthfeel, and the wine is not likely to improve with age.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Easy to nail this as a Syrah because it’s so peppery. Aside from that, it’s also so ripe and fruity, it could be Cabernet, with juicy blackberry, cassis, cherry and chocolate flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
So superripe, soft and sweet, it’s more like a melted dessert than a dry table wine. Think of vanilla ice cream, warmed up to room temperature, then mixed with cherry jam and cassis liqueur.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Unusually ripe and forward even for this vintage, this massive wine explodes with tropical fruit, spice and vanilla aromas and flavors, generously framed in oak. It has the usual slight residual sugar that’s in fashion now, but retains balance and finesse through the long finish. —S.H.

White Oak Chardonnay - 1999

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tries to mimic Marlborough Sauvignon with its intensely grassy, lime and grapefruit flavors and nervy acidity, and comes pretty close. ItÕs a clean, scouring wine, and while itÕs pretty good, itÕs just too thin and watery to merit a higher score.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Simple, crisp and fruity, like a blend of pineapple, apple and peach juice you might buy at the market. No oak, but aged on the lees.
