Yellow nectarine and toffee aromas are accented by hints of banana and fresh green beans. The palate is similar, less the beans. Overall, it’s crisp and fresh; finishes with nectarine, herbs and a hint of menthol. —K.F.

Very yellow coloring paves the way to aromas of dusty newsprint and meat juices. Dig deep to find light citrus fruit that carries to the palate with a dose of eucalyptus. Its odd notes are slightly more acceptable than the lack of body and focus. —K.F.

With 91% Cabernet Franc, this wine displays strong, vegetal, reedy aromas and flavors. There is red plum and cedar laid out over supportive acidity and tannins, but the finish is of bitter eucalyptus.

This well-balanced wine tastes deliciously Old World. Aromas of herbs, pastry dough and cocoa powder are unique to the nose. Reserved plum skin and cherry flavors blend nicely with those of meat juices, leather and dried tobacco.

The smoky meat and cherry flavors are relatively fresh, while the feel is a bit bracing. This is nicely done, probably best paired with rustic or grilled fare. A little more time in the bottle should shine this up even more.

A totally dry Chenin, and as a consequence great with food, this wine comes from the cool-climate Elgin region close to the ocean. The acidity is great, and the only thing that spoils this wine initially is a touch of sulfur, but it blows away after some time in the glass. Imported by Boutique Wine Collection.
