A little extra bottle age has helped this wine soften up, but it still seems to stop a bit short. The entry is firm and shows some Oregon herbal character, along with tart, wild berry and light baking spices. There is a vague hint of barnyard as well. The tannins are beginning to smooth out, and this can probably benefit from a few more years in the cellar.

Bill Hatcher’s follow-up to his excellent 2005 is even better—graceful, balanced, lovely wine. Sweet cherry/berry fruit is matched to spice, light toast, light chocolate, malted milk and vanilla custard streaks—it sounds oakier than it tastes; the fruit is the star here.
