Good, interesting wine from this specialty winery. It starts with clean, complex Zinny aromas of briary, brambly berries, and turns rich and complex on the palate. It’s bone dry, with the structure of a fine red wine, and Zin’s particular exuberance. The long finish suggests midterm aging potential.

A cherry-cola nose displays some menthol, toast and burnt matchstick accents. In the mouth it’s thick, with dark cherry fruit fighting against the heavy oak overlay. Black plum and coffee on the finish complete this very woody package.

Pretty aromas of cherries, chocolate, and vanilla open into berry flavors that are balanced, rich and very dry, with some dusty tannins. Has a round elegance that’s tableworthy.

Strongly herbaceous scents are just this side of vegetal. A bit light and lean in the mouth, but it does taste like Merlot. Some pretty cherry fruit makes it a decent quaff.

A spicy, zinny nose showing lots of delicious fruit. Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in 100% American oak, it’s an appealing, delicious wine for this price. The flavors linger through a satisfying finish, and it doesn’t hit that tannic wall that stops so many of the ’97s.

A very oaky nose leads into a tough, tannic wine. There’s good fruit under all the wood and tannin, and the tight, rugged finish should smooth out in time.

It's a bit shy in the nose, but the flavors are full enough, with spearmint, citrus and apple-fruit. It's dryish, crisp, round, bright and tart. A nice mouthful at a fair price.
