The upside of the recession is that wines this good are being sold for lower prices, which is great news for consumers. This Cabernet, basically a négociant’s blend, is really delicious. It’s rich, dry, tannic and lush in blackberry and cherry tart, chocolate and smoky cedar flavors.

This is a good wine, textbook Carneros in its dryness, crisp acidity, silky texture and cherry, herb and spice flavors. It’s not especially rich, but an elegant Pinot Noir for drinking now.

A good Chardonnay, modestly oaked, with pleasant flavors of lemons, pineapples, buttered toast and cinnamon spice. Brisk acidity makes it finish bright and clean.

Inky dark and full-bodied, this Syrah has all the hallmarks of a young wine. It’s dry and extremely rich in blackberry, wild cherry and blueberry flavors, accented with smoky oak, violets and pepper. Really nice, but maybe too soft for aging.

This is a solid, everyday Chard. It’s very dry and crisp, with earthy, fruity citrus flavors. The acidity may be a little too high for some people.

A good, everyday Cabernet. It’s a bit gritty and hard in tannins, but very dry, with fine classic flavors of blackberries, black currants and oak. Give it a brief decant before drinking.

A bit thin and common, with diluted cherry and cedar flavors that finish dry and tart. Drink now.
