This 75-25 Grenache-Shiraz blend features complex aromas of pepper, dusty earth, leather and black cherries. The tannins are ripe, the mouthfeel round and the fruit surges forward on the palate, picking up a touch of licorice on the finish. Drink now–2012.

A fresh, easy-drinking Shiraz, brimming with blackberries. No, there’s not a ton of complexity, but this wine delivers a mouthful of pure, slightly jammy fruit that should prove versatile at the table. Drink now–2012.

The blend is 75-25 in favor of Grenache, yielding a slightly warm yet only medium-bodied wine with strong black cherry overtones. But there’s also a sense of dusty, sun-baked earth and hints of spice to add complexity. Drink now.

The pleasant nose features a hint of violets, rose petals and then some licorice and leather for rusticity. The palate is bold and flashy, and actually more fresh than heavy. The red fruit flows forth and doesn’t quit. And the finish is snappy with nice weight. —M.S.
