Oak lends nutty, caroby aromas and big, woodsy tannins to this well-priced red; fleshy red plum and berry fruit makes up the balance. Has pretty good length on the finish, too. Well made, and, with 17,000 cases produced, should be relatively easy to find. Imported by Beringer Blass Wine Estates.

Anise notes sex up the nose, and the palate delivers red plum and oak flavors in a pack of chewy tannins. Finishes rich, with earth, meat, demiglace and juicy fruit.

Smells sweet, like molasses, and the same quality reappears on the nose, mixed in with plum and wheat bread flavors. Medium-bodied and a little shrill. Imported by Beringer Blass Wine Estates.

Pretty straightforward stuff, with green apple and citrus aromas and just hints of honey and petrol. It’s medium-bodied, with a touch of residual sugar, but ends with mouthwatering acids. Drink now–2010.

You get the better parts of both worlds here: It’s both classy and casual. If it’s slightly austere on its own, with sharpness and palate-scrubbing acids, just place some spicy food alongside it and you’re home free. Ginger chicken is a particularly good match. The lemon-lime fruit is accented by slate and petrol. It’s more of a food wine than a simple sipper.

Surprisingly herbal and coarsely textured for a Wolf Blass effort, with cherry, tobacco and tomato notes running together on the palate. Finishes a bit better, with coffee and chocolate notes that provide a sense of richness.

This wine could be a challenge to find (1,000 cases produced), but it's a value worth seeking out. The nose shows just light biscuity aromas, and the palate, pear, peach and bread flour flavors. it's dry, even minerally, in the mouth. Not profound, but enjoyable and easy to drink.

Boasts some snappy scents of fresh herbs and cherries, but the flavors are a bit simple and the wine lacks texture, turning tart on the finish. Good, but just that.

Aromas of buttered toast and roasted nuts lead the way, but they’re bolstered by ample pineapple and citrus flavors on the palate. Full-bodied, with a soft, easy-drinking finish.

The warm 2005 growing season worked well with Blass’s approachable style, resulting in a full-bodied but soft Shiraz loaded with plummy fruit. Hints of cedar, leather and earth impart remarkable complexity to an entry-level wine, finishing with a touch of coffee.
