This delicious wine was so light, so airy on the palate that I checked the alcohol: 12.5%. You won’t find this in California, but you will in Bordeaux. The blackberry flavors, infused with smoky oak, are pure and elegant with subtle tannins. There’s a depth and complexity that make for added interest.

From an area that is constantly pursuing excellence with this grape, a deeply fruity wine of enormous charm. On one level it seems simple, with blackberry flavors and rich, dry tannins that are well-oaked and delicious. Then you sip again and discover all sorts of interesting tidbits. It’s drinkable now, especially with braised beef or duck with plum sauce, but has the inherent balance to age gracefully.
