Further advances this county’s case for Sauvignon, with an exciting balance of lush, ripe fig, peach and apricot flavors, crisp acids and a long, spicy finish. Feels creamy and tart in the mouth, like a rich sorbet, and is very complex. Will be fabulous with a goat cheese and endive salad and a roasted chicken.

Sharp in acids and a little green, this Syrah, Cabernet and Zinfandel blend shows flavors of mint, blackberries and tobacco. It’s bone dry.

Feline aromas always are a threat to cool-vintage Sauvignon Blanc, and this ’07 is way too strong in them to earn a higher score. A little goes a long way. They swamp the underlying citrus fruits and figs, not just in the aroma but in the taste.

Dry, silky and crisp in acidity, this single-vineyard Pinot shows delicacy of structure along with finely ground tannins and some nice fruit. The cherry, cola and pomegranate flavors turn earthy on the finish.

Decent, with cherry, cocoa, cassis and tobacco flavors and rich, easy tannins. Stays fruity through the finish. Syrah, Merlot, Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc.

Frankly sweet in sugary blackberry candy flavors, this wine also tastes over-acidified. Just feels awkward in the mouth.

A pretty good Cab with some ripe flavors of blackberries, cherries and blueberries. It has a soft, melted mouthfeel, and the fruit penetrates deep into the taste buds.

No doubt this is Zinfandel, with its wealth of wild, brambly-fresh berry fruit that seems like it was just picked. Blackberries, loganberries and raspberries, with an earthy edge of coffee and peppery tobacco, mingle together in this totally dry, crisp young wine. Drink now for its exuberance.

Shows the intensely concentrated mountain fruit you get from this Napa Valley sub-region, with strong flavors of blackberries, cherries, currants and cola, wrapped into firm tannins. It’s a balanced, firm young wine that will benefit from a year or two in the cellar.
