Forward and spicy on the nose, but with control. In fact, this is one reserved reserva through and through. It shows lively, narrow cherry, plum and raspberry flavors and then toast and spice take over on the back end. A little sharp and tart; could benefit from further aging.

Very smooth and soft, this is an interpretation of Bordeaux that left out the tannins. But the pleasure in this easy, ripe wine is there, the blackberry fruit rich and right up front.

As crisp and clean as they come, this smooth and creamy Sauvignon bursts with just the right amount of herbaceous, green pea and grapefruit flavors. It is great to drink as an apéritif or with food.

Made by Carmen Stevens, one of South Africa’s first black female winemakers, this is a gorgeous blend with rich aromas and flavors of black currant leaf, licorice, cigar tobacco, boysenberry and black cherry. Lush and creamy in the mouth, the finish offers a hint of fresh mint sprig for a last minute lift.

This fairly rich and heavy rosé is produced and bottled for Xavier Flouret by Domaine de Rimauresq. It does have attractive peach and melon aromas, but the flavors are weighty in the mouth and could use a touch more zest and zip on the finish. Best with meaty dishes. A blend of 45% Cinsault, 25% Tibouren, 25% Grenache and 5% Syrah.

Part of the range of negociant wines under the worldwide Xavier Flouret range, this Chablis is earthy, rustic, a soft but underwhelming wine, missing the proper bite of the region’s wines. Imported by Cognac One, LLC.

Domaine de Chatenoy, in the same family for 15 generations, has produced this rich, full-flavored wine, packed with sweet strawberry and smooth tannins. It could age, but is ready to drink now.

This French-sounding brand has turned out a very good German Riesling, thanks to an assist from the folks at Selbach-Oster. It’s a light, dry wine with a fair amount of complexity, including hints of pear, melon, wet stone, petrol and peppery spice. Finishes long, with more minerals and spice.

Rich Sauvignon flavors here, the herbaceous element made weighty by the full-on apricot and green plum tastes. There is a tight, steely texture, with powerful acidity well integrated with the fruit.

Opens with fairly deep blackberry aromas, but there’s also a stemmy edge to the bouquet. Generic flavors of baked plum and berry are lifted by slicing acids, while the finish bounces along before ending with some straightforward chocolate and berry notes.
