Rather sturdily built for Pinot Noir, with medium body, a slightly syrupy mouthfeel and some dusty tannins on the finish. Smoke, cherry and graham cracker notes are likeable but a bit simple.

Flavorful, but somewhat chunky and direct, Yabby Lake’s 2008 Chardonnay features notes of vanilla, citrus and pear, with only a hint of butter, while the finish of this medium-bodied wine turns crisp and blatantly oaky.

This is not an oaky, or even a rich Chardonnay; instead it treads the understated mineral-and-pear line. Finishes with some sour citrus pith and a chalky, smooth feel.

This Chardonnay from the cool Mornington Peninsula starts off a bit rough and oaky—the predominant aromas are of smoke and toast—but comes together much better on the palate, where its substantial ripe peach flavors take charge, accented by bacony notes. Definitely not for fans of restraint, but this concentrated wine is authoritatively flavored and intense. Drink now–2012.

Out of the bottle, this Pinot feels as though it straddles Old and New World styles; it has a beautiful, minerally feel and dusty, meaty aromas. Let it sit for a while and it becomes a New World powerhouse—big, forward and muscular. Watch this winery.

A good wine...but disappointing given the high quality of the winery’s Chardonnay. This is a plump, medium-bodied Pinot with a somewhat coarse texture and rather simple sour-cherry flavors.
