Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Not as good as Yering’s Shiraz-Viogniers have been, but still a good wine. This vintage offers a nose full of amaretto, green herb—and, with some time, black and green pepper. On the palate the wine is on the thin side, with high-toned cherry and herb flavors. The soily-smooth texture is its high point. Imported by Epic Wines.

A wine that combines pretty black-cherry fruit with cinnamon, earth and mushrooms. The fruit is pleasant enough, but the emphasis is on the earthier side of Pinot—soil and mulch and bark; some herbal flavors chime in on the finish. Might improve with mid-term cellaring.

This is the kind of wine that showcases just how distinctive and special Australia can be across so many varietals. It unites ripe, tropical-fruity characteristics with mineral and herbal ones, and yokes them together with smoky oak. There’s very great fruity extract, but it’s not over the top, and the acidity, as usual, is high and makes things shine. If you’re tired of fat, flat Chards but demand fruit, try this one.

Perhaps the best Oz Pinot we’ve tasted, with smoky, meaty aromas that segue seamlessly into sour cherry, chocolate and earth flavors. It’s full and soft in the mouth before finishing long, with notes of leather, cedar and cherries.

The nose is this wine's strongest suit. It evolves nicely, first showing eucalyptus and earth, and then mocha, anise and dense, sweet fruit. The wine's feel and flavors are also very good—it's feminine in size, focused on plum fruit. Finishes a little flat, but still very good overall.

Medium-weight and smooth, this Pinot's calling card is its drying tannins, which last through to the very end. Red plums on the palate have a roasted quality—or maybe it's just the char and caramelized sugar talking.

Classy, sexy and certainly ageworthy. Dusty, meaty, peppery aromas lead to a palate rife with dark fruit and substantial oak. Supple in the mouth, with burly black fruit and wheat flour on the finish. Drink through 2012.

This medium-bodied Chard has some butterscotch notes on the nose, but thankfully lacks similarly overpowering flavors on the palate. Some citrus flavors accent the wine’s peachy core; finishes a little watery.

Fresh hay and caramel aromas lead to similar brown-sugary accents on the palate. Has promise, but it's a real lightweight, with whispers of tart red plum fruit that extends through the back end.

Aromas are of violets and wheat bread, both of which unfold on the palate, too. Mocha, black cherry and plum flavors carry through to the smooth, meaty finish. A very nice wine, but Viognier’s floral component is very dominant, a little too much so for this reviewer. Imported by Epic Wines.
