ZD’s reserve Chard is from Napa Valley. This California bottling is from Napa, Sonoma, Monterey and Santa Barbara. It’s very ripe, with upfront pineapple jam, vanilla cream and butterscotch flavors. A crisp streak of cool-climate acidity permeates throughout.

A strange Chardonnay. It’s creamy, with tropical fruit and buttered popcorn flavors and lots of oak. But there’s a disturbing note of dill, and the finish is cloying.

What a lovely wine. You’ll miss its subtle charms if you’re just into power. It’s a delicately structured, feminine Cab, with currant, olive, herb and oaky flavors, and soft, gentle tannins. The kind of wine that lets the food star, while playing a supporting role.

This is quite a dry Chard, rustic and earthy and even a bit austere, although the dryness is relieved both by pronounced oak and an underlying current of pear and peach fruit that shows up in the finish.
