Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pretty aromas of smoked meat, tire rubber and ripe plums. The flavors run toward black cherry and pepper, with a touch of creaminess making for an easy mouthfeel. Very silky and full; quite a pleasure to drink.

Powerful and spicy, with aromas of black fruit, pepper, baking spices and herbs. This is soft, modern Amarone, a wine that you could drink now. The palate is rich, with chewy fruit and plenty of nuance. Overall it’s clean, easy and perfectly textured.

This wine from the shores of Lake Garda has fresh, attractively crisp fruit, and a touch of acidity over some broad, food-friendly fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Slightly heavy, but by no means has it lost its style, balance or zip. The bouquet is packed with road tar, dark cherry and chocolate, and all together we found it “simpatico.” As for flavors, look for chocolate, cherries, and Middle Eastern spices. Loaded with size and subtleties.

Here is a generous and engaging Amarone with deep levels of ripe berry fruit, tar, cedar wood, Indian spice and cola. The wine is rich and chewy with lingering sweetness on the close and huge intensity of ripe cherry flavors.

Zenato Pinot Grigio - 1998

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A golden hued wine with deep aromas of peanut skin, Graham cracker, cookie dough and dried tobacco leaf; this white from near Lake Garda would make a good companion to white meat or shellfish-based dishes. It’s very nut driven and heavy in the mouth although its fresh crispness comes through on the close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The traditional Valpolicella blend of Corvina and Rondinella from the hills north of Verona usually delivers red currant, apple cider, mineral tones and Indian spice. This wine is no exception. There’s a nice intensity in the mouth and the wine promises to make a good match to meat ragù.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Amarone pomace is added to a Valpolicella base wine to trigger a second fermentation that yields more color, extracts and aromatic intensity. Cherry, vanilla, Mediterranean dried herbs and exotic spice come together to create harmony; it also has very dry tannins thanks to 24 months in wood.
