This is a very pleasurable Ripasso that opens with attractive aromas of sweet spice, nutmeg and ground clove. But don’t discount the fruit element because it’s here too, loud and strong, as cherry and blackberry. The wine is smooth, silky and slightly sweet at the very end.

This broad, generous expression of Amarone has black fruit aromas that are fleshed out by pretty mineral tones of slate roof or schoolroom chalkboard. Although the fruit tastes very ripe, the wine’s firm tannins create a drying effect in the mouth.

Zeni’s pretty Amarone offers great intensity and persistency of aromas. Dried fruit, prune, vanilla, cedar and exotic spice are well integrated to form a unified bouquet. The wine tastes chewy and slightly sweet with velvety fruit on the close.

This historic estate on the shores of Lake Garda is one of Amarone’s biggest ambassadors when it comes to foreign markets. Good fruit sourcing has shaped a pretty 2003 vintage wine with a nice full nose and no sharp points. You’ll encounter plum, black cherry, roasted nut, vanilla-coffee and exotic spice.

The nose here offers bright piquancy in the form of Indian spice and dried apple skin. Beyond those more volatile aromas is a solid foundation of dark chocolate, mature fruit and resin that are very much in line with ripasso tradition.
