Another strong, high-alcohol (15%) North Coast Zin. Kind of flat and featureless, beyond the plum and herb flavors and dry tannins. Try with roasts, barbecue, burgers.

Dark, saturated and dense, from warm vineyards in the county’s inland, this field blend contains Syrah and Petite Sirah. It’s very good, as far as brash, young, big wines go. Powerful, wild brambly fruit is fully dry, and the wine is fairly tannic. From Parducci. —S.H.
