Earthy and warm on first take, with deep fruit and soupy side aromas. The palate is juicy and lively, with blackberry flavors as well as toasty accents. Round, ripe and generous on the finish, with brightness but also a syrupy side. All in all it’s a good wine for the money.

Sweet and honeyed, but flat and cloying. Candied melon and citrus flavors run heavy and chunky, and the finish is more of the same. Big, ripe, sticky and sweet but definitely not elevated in class.

Crusty on the nose, with aromas of leather, saucy fruit and alcohol. The wine is full and sweet, with ripe, sturdy flavors of blackberry, plum and raisin followed by fudge and herbs. It blends richness with agility.

Orange peel, green fruits and then not much else make for a standard nose. The palate is full-sized and melony, and so is the plump, sweet finish. There’s size, tropical fruit and green banana all over this wine, but not much spine or structure. Drink now.

Rich, oaky and earthy, with char to the bouquet. A little tannic and beefy, but with serious grip and feel. Tastes like savory, herb-infused berry and plum, while the finish is herbal, long and solid. Nice wine with an herbal streak and staunch tannins.

Cloying and spritzy with sweet, sugary aromas. It doesn’t really offer much reason to come back to it after the first nosing and sip.

Crisp and firm on the nose, but more sweet and cloying on the palate. Flavors of pear and roasted corn are not quite as sharp as ideal, while the finish is barely of medium depth. A bit plump and slick, as it falls off with time. Imported by Epic Wines.

Not a whole lot to say about the soft, flat nose. It’s o.k., but that’s really about it. The palate, meanwhile, turns sweet, nearly to the point of candied. And the finish is downright sugary. Decent weight and feel help it along.

Apparently heavily charred is what constitutes a reserve bottling at Zolo, because the wine smells like a cup of java along with leather and melted rubber. Eventually fruit emerges, and it's in the dark and stormy category, meaning it's big, bold and peppery but not too suave or defined.

A Cabernet that resides on the dark side. The nose is baked and earthy, with coffee notes. Dark plum and chocolate flavors run wild on the tannic palate, while the lengthy finish is slightly bitter with the taste of espresso. Imported by Epic Wines.
