Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tasty apple-pear aromas and flavors, fine balance, and good fruit-acid balance are a winning combination (as always) in this appealing mid-weight white. Tasty and surprisingly stylish at the price, with (again, as always) good fruit at the core. Worth seeking out, the equal of many more costly Chardonnays of diverse origin.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Juicy, ripe Shiraz fruit is accented by ample toasty oak and a lively citrus note in this tasty, even welterweight. There's more tangy acidity and tannins here than is usually found in a value red. Closes dry with espresso and black fruit notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Plum, blueberry, leather and spice waft from the glass, followed by a lean, dry, almost metallic note. Light in the mouth, with tart plum peeking through, this would be a tough match for food. Imported by Dreyfus, Ashby & Co.

Ash, berry, smoked meat and spice on the nose lead into flavors of gamy leather and dark fruit. Good with smoked meat entrees. Hold for 3–4 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Zonnebloem is one of South Africa’s biggest-selling brands, able to produce wines at affordable prices. This medium-bodied wine offers something not many can at this price: ripe fruit flavors, intensity and depth. A nose of pithy white fruit leads to a crisp framework with peach, kiwi and lime dancing on the tongue. No frills necessary, a fine accompaniment to lunch and light conversation.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Young and lush, this wine has strong purple fruit flavors, aromas of creamy vanilla, lemony oak and leather, with moderate tannins and spice to support. Pinotage can age, but this comes across as forward and fruity, so the best bet is to enjoy it now. Imported by Dreyfus, Ashby & Co.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A quick hint of herby char on the nose is followed by buttered toast that extends to the delicate flavors of stonefruit and citrus peel. This comes off semi-viscous but clean, with a short, lemony finish. —K.F.
