Sort of hard and bitter on the nose, and then distinctly herbal and almost foxy as it opens up. Tough and choppy for RDD, with an angular palate full of buttery red fruit flavors. Tough and rough on the finish as well.

Light cherry, earth and smoke notes are more encouraging than the tart, pointed palate, which features sour cherry and berry fruit. On the finish, you get lemony oak and some grabby tannins.

Based on experience, Zumaya’s wines just aren’t at the high level that Ribera del Duero is known for. This is herbal and foxy, with roasted, leafy aromas leading to an underwhelming palate of tomato, stewed red fruit and vanilla. Saucy on the finish, and ultimately okay but not up to par.

Raw and woody, with thin cherry fruit and hints of tangy, almost sour strawberry. Lightweight yet gritty.

Pretty heavy on the nose, with mushroom, bacon and rubber. The palate runs extremely fast, with condensed cherry flavors that hit hard courtesy of spiky tannins. Very forward and in-your-face.
