We had this nice Chianti Classico in St. Lucia at the Sandals resort (Grande St. Lucian) at their Italian restaurant. Normally, and most people do this, folks go for the house wine (Stone Cellars by Beringer) because it's part of the all inclusive. However, I can't eat good Italian food without Italian wine, so I sprang for the Gabbiano Chianti Classico. Chianti is my go to for pastas with thick creamy sauce and marinara, but since I was having pork, I wanted a wine with a little more substance. Gabbiano boasts that they've been making wine since 1124... it's on their bottle... but I'm pretty sure it tastes better now. Pleasant aromas of red fruit with that Old World earthiness I love so much about many Italian reds. Very affordable and easily accessible. Check it out with grilled pork, beef, or possibly Mom's lasagna.
