Nia R.: Adventures in Wine

Back to Nia's full profile

Q1: Where did you grow up?

A1: Atlanta, GA

Q2: What was the first time you remember drinking wine?

A2: Christmas dinner with all of my dad's family.

Q3: When did you start to like wine?

A3: Probably the first time I had a sauvignon blanc - the citrus flavors came through and realized that wines could truly taste very different from each other.

Q4: Where do you drink wine mostly?

A4: At home with my family or at restaurants with friends.

Q5: What are your favorite types of wine? Varietals? Regions?

A5: I prefer wines that are more fruity or zesty. I've always liked sauvignon blanc but have recently discovered verdejo and gewurztraminer, both of which I enjoyed immensely. For reds, I like cabs and pinots with nice berry flavors.

Q6: What are your favorite kinds of food?

A6: Indian, Thai, Californian, Greek, French... very wide-ranging. Also, anything with avocado.

Q7: What are your favorite restaurants?

A7: Pacifico (Nuevo Latino cuisine), Zinc (contemporary American), and Thai Taste in New Haven, CT; Figo (Italian) in Atlanta; Bottega in Yountville, CA.

Q8: Do you cook? If so, what kind of food and for whom?

A8: Yes - for eating at home with friends - often I do Anglo-Indian dishes such as chicken tikka or chickpea curry, but I like to cook healthy, flavorful, vegetarian meals.

Q9: What are your favorite wine memories?

A9: Drinking homemade wine at Greek tavernas, the Chateau Montelena vertical tasting (25 consecutive vintages of their cabernet sauvignon) I was fortunate enough to attend.

Q10: Do you have any wine-related disasters?

A10: Failing to get the cork out intact?

Q11: Which are your favorite Bottlenotes wines?

A11: Cannonball cab, Perfecta chardonnay, Arabella merlot.
