Christian C.: Adventures in Wine
Q1: Where did you grow up?
A1: Toronto, Canada
Q2: What was the first time you remember drinking wine?
A2: At family dinners when I was younger. My dutch immigrant mother made sure I was going to have taste.
Q3: When did you start to like wine?
A3: I started to really enjoy wine while living over in France and Germany from the age of 19th to 23
Q4: Where do you drink wine mostly?
A4: I mostly drink wine at home with my girlfriend. It is the perfect winding down and luxury at the end of the day.
Q5: What are your favorite types of wine? Varietals? Regions?
A5: Favorite wines for me are Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio. A favorite region for me are wines from the Loire Valley. But this is probably nostalgic as I lived in Tour for half a year when I was 19. A hopeless romantic.
Q6: What are your favorite kinds of food?
A6: Indian. French. Thai. Scottish (joking)
Q7: What are your favorite restaurants?
A7: Too many to count and many are little East Village obscure haunts. The restaurant 44 ? in midtown Manhattan is a new discovery that I love
Q8: Do you cook? If so, what kind of food and for whom?
A8: I enjoy cooking Indonesian food. Again the Dutch influence of my family who ran a hotel in Jakarta in the 1930's
Q9: If you were stranded on a desert island, what one type of food/wine would choose to have?
A9: Nachos and Chardonnay?
Q10: Do you have any wine-related disasters?
A10: I was on a show called Degrassi High up in Canada when I was a 17 and we had a wrap party for that years season. The producers had catered a party for the cast and crew and I stole a case of red wine from the caterers at the end of the night. Even at 17 when one is able to drink just about anything, my friends and I found it near impossible to down this gut rot. I say near impossible because we did manage to finish the case after about 10 months but it took so long because we would only drink it if we were absolutely desperate for booze. It became sort of a dare to see if anyone could down the stuff without gagging. This was the beginning of my appreciation for the finer things in life.
