sferik: Adventures in Wine

Back to Erik's full profile

Q1: Where did you grow up?

A1: upstate New York (Woodstock)

Q2: What was the first time you remember drinking wine?

A2: On a road trip across the US with my two best friends, Nate and Will. We spent a day wine tasting in the Russian River Valley and then brought a bottle to the beach where we drank and watched the sun set over the Pacific.

Q3: When did you start to like wine?

A3: in college

Q4: Where do you drink wine mostly?

A4: both at home and at restaurants, with dinner

Q5: What are your favorite types of wine? Varietals? Regions?

A5: reds: I'll try just about anything. whites: I typically drink white wine in the summer months. I like pinot gris and sauvignon blanc and stay away from buttery chardonnay as well as anything too sweet.

Q6: What are your favorite kinds of food?

A6: I like spicy food: Indian, Mexican, Thai, Burmese, Chinese. I also enjoy sushi, seafood, and California cuisine. I'm a pescatarian.

Q7: What are your favorite restaurants?

A7: in San Francisco: Orson, Bacar, Greens, Chaya, Salt House, Anchor

Q8: What is your favorite wine and food pairing?

A8: I love eating fresh oysters on the half shell with a mineraly pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc or white Burgundy.

Q9: Do you cook? If so, what kind of food and for whom?

A9: As you can probably guess from my "favorite" restaurant list, I eat out much more than I cook. When I do cook, it's never anything special. I often drink wine at home with cheese, takeout, or before going out to dinner.

Q10: If you were stranded on a desert island, what one type of food/wine would choose to have?

A10: Such a tough question to answer...I think I'd go with lobster. Not sure what kind of wine. Something that goes well with lobster, I suppose.

Q11: What are your favorite wine memories?

A11: I have some great memories of days spent wine tasting in Sonoma. Many good memories involved champagne, though I'm not a big champagne drinker (too sweet). Perhaps my best wine memory is making wine via Crushpad. The whole experience was fun and very educational.

Q12: Do you have any wine-related disasters?

A12: A few broken glasses, but no real disasters.

Q13: Which are your favorite Bottlenotes wines?

A13: I haven't tried any yet...
