William P.: Adventures in Wine

Back to William's full profile

Q1: Where did you grow up?

A1: Southwest Suburbs of Chicago

Q2: What was the first time you remember drinking wine?

A2: Watching the Godfather with some friends of mine in college. We saw they were all drinking wine so we decided we would try it.

Q3: When did you start to like wine?

A3: Friends of mine and I started bringing Franzia boxes to Thanksgiving parties. As we got older, the wines got more respectable and I realized there were some I really enjoyed.

Q4: Where do you drink wine mostly?

A4: When I am out with my wine appreciating friends, usually at a BYO sushi place.

Q5: What are your favorite types of wine? Varietals? Regions?

A5: Napa Valley Cabernets and Zins.

Q6: What are your favorite kinds of food?

A6: Pasta, Pizza, Steaks, Pork Chops.

Q7: What are your favorite restaurants?

A7: Pizza is my favorite but I enjoy steakhouses, and BBQ ribs are high on the list.

Q8: What is your favorite wine and food pairing?

A8: Any strong red with a good filet.

Q9: Do you cook? If so, what kind of food and for whom?

A9: I am pretty good on the grill and I make some mean steaks. I can also do the occasional pasta in a meat sauce.

Q10: If you were stranded on a desert island, what one type of food/wine would choose to have?

A10: I would want a nice think porterhouse or bone in rib eye and I'd wash it down with a Hess Collection Cabernet. This must be a swanky island.

Q11: What are your favorite wine memories?

A11: Going on a vacation to Napa Valley and visiting about a half dozen wineries.

Q12: Do you have any wine-related disasters?

A12: Only if you count a bottle of Ferrari Carano Tressor tasting considerably better at the winery than it did when I got a bottle home.

Q13: Which are your favorite Bottlenotes wines?

A13: I really liked the Cannonball Cabernet. I bought another bottle.
