James Beard Foundation’s Chefs & Champagne is Serious Tasting

James Beard Foundation’s Chefs & Champagne is Serious Tasting
A gathering of celebrity chefs, fine wines and champion eaters

cclogoThe James Beard Foundation held its annual Chefs & Champagne bash in the Hamptons this summer, and revelers gathered to sample fine wine and the food of some of the biggest names in the culinary world. Celebrities, celebrity chefs, and some hungry and thirsty people were there to indulge.

Talk about restaurant clout: Marcus Samuelsson, Geoffrey Zakarian, Chris Santos, Scott Conant, and Maneet Chauhan were just a few big names in food, along with TV personality, Ted Allen.

There was the glam factor present as well. Former Bond girl and Law & Order star Carey Lowell, Katie Lee and B. Smith were all in attendance.

But the big star of the evening was the wine. Here are a couple of the highlights:

NICOLAS FEUILLATTE “Palmes d’Or” Brut Champagne 1999 (Champagne, France) $160. Those who paid extra for VIP access to the event were poured unlimited glasses of this bold-flavored Champagne, made of equal parts pinot noir and chardonnay. Several other Nicolas Feuillatte Champagnes were served throughout the evening.

WÖLFFER ESTATE VINEYARD “Grandioso” Rosé 2011 (Sagaponack, NY) $29. This pale salmon color rosé, made mostly of merlot, is the perfect summer wine. It’s wonderful as an afternoon refresher, but is also great with salmon or shrimp. Guests at the event were served from magnums, which retail for $60.

The food, well, there was just too much to taste and too much to mention with nearly 50 chefs whipping up delectable offerings, but there was something for everyone from caviar, to lobster rolls, to Long Island duck breast, to gourmet strawberry shortcake.

Which celeb chef would you most like a food sample from? Tell us below.
