Oktoberfest is Here!
Sip through Oktoberfest with a fantastic German riesling

o_festYou may think Oktoberfest is only for beer lovers, but think again. Oktoberfest is a celebration of all things Bavarian and German, with events taking place the world over. Oktoberfest is a celebration of all things Bavarian and German, with events taking place the world over. Oktoberfest this year runs from September 22 through October 7, meaning 16 days of food, fun, beer, and yes, wine.

How can wine lovers celebrate Oktoberfest? We recommend sipping German rieslings for the next few weeks to capture the Oktoberfest spirit. Riesling is Germany’s top grape, and it can be made into all styles of wine, from dry and half dry to sweet dessert wines. One of the most food-friendly varietals, riesling can pair well with meats like chicken or pork, and can also go with Asian cuisines like Chinese or Vietnamese. Here are a few to try:

LOOSEN BROS. "Dr. L" Riesling 2010 (Mosel) $9.
This is a semi-sweet wine with citrus and apple flavors that would pair very well with fruit dishes or light desserts. Available here.

ANGSAR CLUSSERATH "Vom Schiefer" Riesling Trocken 2010 (Mosel) $17.
With lots of acidity and flavors of pineapple and citrus, this bone dry wine would pair well with both cheese and meat, but could also stand up to spicier fare. Available here.
