Team Bottlenotes presents fabulous wines of February
Domaine Carneros “Le Rêve” 2005 (Carneros, CA) $89. I popped this delightful bottle of California bubbly with new and old friends to celebrate the first Saturday night in my new home. As the candle wax began to spill over and the laughter died down, we clinked our glasses and smiled as the perfectly balanced sparkler swirled in our mouths. The wine’s just-right touch of acidity and hints of mango and Granny Smith apple made it a bright, delightful bubbly to drink. Find it here.
Buoncristiani Family Winery, Buoncristiani 2006 (Napa Valley, CA) $95. This red wine was perfectly smooth with sinewy tannins and juicy blackberry and huckleberry flavors. It is a truly delicious classic California Cabernet Sauvignon. Find it here.
Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (Russian River Valley, CA) $40. I tried this wine on a visit to the winery, and I can see why it is so popular. For sauvignon blanc, it's relatively full-bodied, yet has all the snappiness and citrus flavors one associates with great California sauvignon blanc, plus notes of stone fruits and flowers. I couldn't resist buying a few bottles to take home. Find it here.
Do Ferreiro Albariño 2010 (Rias Baixas, Spain) $24. I shared this bottle with two incurably handsome men on a Monday evening in San Francisco prior to an outstanding dinner at Nojo. This white was lively, juicy and bright, and layered with flavors of lime, pineapple and lemongrass. Fresh and tart, it’s perfection on its own, but would be incredible with ceviche or oysters on the half shell. My boys and I gulped it down so easily, it was gone before I knew it! Find the wine here.
Migration Chardonnay 2009 (Russian River Valley, Sonoma County) $30. This delicious chardonnay reminds me of the peach ice cream I used to eat while growing up. I first tried it last year at our Around the World in 80 Sips event in Denver, and was excited to have it poured in San Francisco again this month! Find it here.
