Fall Into Sangria
A recipe for Port sangria that celebrates the season’s rich flavors

sandemans_ciderhouse_sangriaThe apple pie is in the oven and the fireplace is crackling. You’re wearing your coziest sweater, and your empty hand is in need of an adult beverage to capture this autumnal moment.

A splash of your favorite Port would do. But we invite you to enhance that Port’s rich, red fruit and spice notes with the recipe below for Sandeman’s Ciderhouse Sangria. The recipe calls for Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto, a very good choice, or feel free to experiment with a favorite reserve-style Port of your own.

There are plenty available for under $20. We found that Graham’s Fine Ruby Port ($17) and Fonseca Bin 27 Port ($15) performed well.

•   bottle of reserve-style Port
•   24 ounces apple cider
•   3 ounces rye whiskey
•   1.5 ounces maple syrup
•   2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
•   2 pears, peeled and diced

Mix all ingredients in a pitcher and let sit for at least eight to 12 hours.
