April Showers Bring Spring…Wines
What to drink inside when it’s pouring rain outside
Ahh, spring has finally sprung. The flowers are blooming; runners are embracing the fine weather; and patio season is entering full swing. But with April and spring, come showers. How do you survive this rain-rich month?
We say stay inside and sip wine.
So leave the umbrella and the wellies in the closet, and try some of these wines, perfect for a lazy, rainy, spring day.
Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups “Les Caburoches” Vouvray Sec 2008 (Loire Valley, France) $27
Honey should spring to mind when you smell this balanced, dry (sec) chenin blanc. And while we tasted the 2008, don’t hesitate to buy younger vintages. Put out a platter of goat cheese and pop in Singing In The Rain.
Borgongno Dolcetto d’Alba 2010 (Barolo, Italy) $13
Put the winter sweaters and the winter reds back in the closet and try this sip-away-the-afternoon, light spring red. Cook up something savory, crank up the Andrea Bocelli, and pretend you’re enjoying the Italian countryside.
Syncline Rosé 2010 (Columbia Valley, Washington) $18
No spring wine list would be complete without a rosé because the pink stuff always says spring, rain or shine. This pale pink wine is a blend made from mostly pinot noir, with some grenache and mourvèdre, as well. It’s crisp and light and guaranteed to wash away the rain blues.
