Oyster Bay Merlot - 2007
January 20, 2012
- appearance: very intense and deep in color, dark purple
- nose: fairly pronounced with aromas of port, red twizzlers, plum, and white pepper
- palate: medium dryness with low acidity and average tannins. the body is very high and has tons of port-like flavorings, with black licorice, and a hint of caramel.
- overall: i had this wine after it sitting for a week, and it changed dramatically from when i first opened it. and this tasting is based on the week sitting. it's a very different kind of taste. the port-like flavor is undeniable. the body is high, the length is weak though. the problem with this wine is that it's one-dimensional, and i actually see that strong dimension overtaking all food with it. even drinking on it's own is not so great.
- i give it an 85
