Broadside, Cabernet Sauvignon "Margarita Vineyard" - 2009(SL-A9888)

Broadside, Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Note

2009 Broadside “Margarita Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon is our fourth release for this wine. It’s made without the use of ... (more...)yeasts, bacteria, or acid during it’s fermentation andaging. We do this in order to craft natural wine. Aged in 100% French oak, with only 2% of which is new oak. We try to focus on the vineyard, letting the natural expression ofthe grape variety shine through. Petite Verdot sourced exclusively from the Margarita Vineyard from vines planted in1999. 4600 cases produced.SITEThe Margarita Vineyard is the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles appellation. It is actually much closer to the town of San Luis Obispo than Paso Robles. The vineyard isalso located closer to the Pacific Ocean than most other vineyards in the Paso Robles appellation. It’s just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean at an altitude of 1000 feet. Thislocation results in perfect conditions for growing cabernet Sauvignon with warm days and cool nights. The resulting wine has an abundant intensity of fruit, but still maintainsbalance and freshness. In addition, hillside plantings and calcareous soil with lots of fossilized sea shells give the wine a mineral thread uncommon to most red wines at thispricepoint. The wine was produced and bottled by Broadside a few miles east of the vineyard in the town of Creston.
