Craggy Range, Sauvignon Blanc Te Muna Road Vineyard - 2010

Winery Story

A tale of two families: Terry Peabody and his family had searched for ten years to find the place and the people that could fulfill a dream ... (more...)— that they could make some of the best wine in the world. It was this notion of legacy — to create something greater than the here and now — that led Terry Peabody in 1997 to Steve Smith and to the development of Craggy Range. Together they set a plan to buy the best vineyard land, select some parcels of grapes grown by the country’s best farmers, and to choose a place for their homes, cellars and country restaurant. Their aim was to make single-vineyard wines — wines that are true expressions of the vineyard’s terroir — that will compete with the best in the world.

Tasting Note

“The 2010 Te Muna Road Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc has pronounced grass and lemon zest aromas over grapefruit, gooseberry and green apple... (more...). Dry and medium bodied with lively acidity, it has plenty of herbal and green apple flavors that linger long into the finish. Drinking now, it should remain fresh to 2013.” —The Wine Advocate

A light, crisp white that was the perfect compliment to the truffle butter popcorn at Press Club.

Light, crisp and refreshing and a great value. Not your "typical" New Zealand SB which can get a little cloying after a while.

Second 80 Sips Challenge wine at Fog City Diner. Nicely balanced with the grassy acidity you expect in a NZ sauv blanc. I liked this with the mac and cheese on the menu.
