Tasting Note
‘Adversity is tantamount to greatness in Pinot Noir’, an aphorism that is certainly true of the Maggy Hawk site in Anderson Vall... (more...)ey, a steeply sloped vineyard near the cool coastal Redwoods. Each of the Pinot Noirs from the vineyard is named for the four horses born to the mare: Jolie, Afleet, Stormin’ and Unforgettable. The unique expression borne of training, bloodlines, site and alchemy applies equally to wine and horses.Stormin’ Pinot Noir is the living embodiment of the horse for whom it’s named, a wine that bursts out of the gate and exhibits a vivacious, powerful nature year after year.Located on a high hillock in the vineyard, the Stormin’ Pinot Noir is the most powerful of the three wines. Exotic aromas of sumac (rosehip, tea leaves), orange peel and cola add dimension to the vivid blueberry and black raspberry elements.Flavors of black cherry and cassis carry through a long, focused finish, all held together by minerally, firm tannins.- Elizabeth Grant-Douglas
